1127-1279AD, The Southern Song Period, saw the southward move of the Song Dynasty as a result of the war and turbulence of the era. Here they established their new capital of Lin'an, known today as Hangzhou. One of the emperor's favorite concubines began to suffer from a prolonged period of severe homesickness, becoming unable to eat or even sleep quietly. Her decaying appearance tugged at the heartstrings of the Emperor, leading him to issue an imperial order to find the world's greatest physician. With no result the Emperor himself also began to become deeply upset, even lacking interest with any state affairs. A learned farmer in the area, after becoming aware of the problem, recommended to the Emperor that a medicine named Ganoderma Lucidum be employed to treat the problem. Soon the miracle of physical and mental rehabilitation along with renewed vigor became apparent. The Emperor bestowed upon the farmer not only ten of thousands in gold, but a new shop named 'Kang Yuan Tang'. There forth the farmers fame continued to spread far and wide as he treated and donated medicine freely amongst the people, be they rich or poor, he removed their illnesses. |
